The River Danube flows through ten central European countries, making it one of the most fascinating, accessible and enjoyable rivers in the world – it is also the longest river in Europe. History courses thick through its veins, from the source in the Black Forest of Germany, through to the delta and canalised conclusion at the Black Sea. Taking a Danube River Cruise, will enable you to sail through an area of the world where humans have existed – living, fighting, developing, over thousands of years. Here exists a huge diversity of cultures, as well as the evidence of their history, as you travel the river, witnessing the effects left by the myriad of civilizations that have passed before.
Local Cruising can be done from any of the major stops along the river. You can cruise for lunch, dinner or any special occasion. Cruises are available for an hour or two, as you travel the local waterways of the Danube, or for longer distances and durations.
Activities that you can enjoy on your Danube River Cruise include bird watching, visiting the remains of the Roman Empire, experiencing forests and reserves with trees hundreds or even thousands of years old, exploring villages and local life, visiting vineyards, and enjoying the various forms of fishing and river life. There are several different natural habitats along the Danube, which allow for a wide diversity of plant and animal life. Do not miss the opportunity to explore one of the oldest and historically rich, ecologically diverse regions on the planet.
Various ships and boats are available for cruising, ranging from the smallest private fishing boat to the larger cruise line ships that are specifically designed for river travel. The larger cruise liners can hold hundreds passengers and range in sizes from 100 – 200 metres.
RiverRide
This is a specialist sightseeing tour on which you can see the sights of Budapest from a comfortable seat, first along its busy streets, and then, from one second to the next – to the gasps of some of your fellow travellers – you are launched into the lapping water of the Danube. Budapest without the Danube would not be Budapest, and whoever tries it once will never forget the magic of admiring the view while being gently rocked by the gently rippling waves. However, taking everything in from the deck of a luxury coach makes the experience even more special. After the watery adventure, climbing back to the river shore, you will find yourself once again in the hustle and bustle of the Metropolis.

Other Interesting sights to see on the River Danube - Shoes on the Danube
Thie monument, entitled 'Shoes on the Danube Bank,' gives remembrance to the people shot and thrown into the Danube during the time of the Arrow Cross terror. The sculptor created sixty pairs of period shoes out of iron and they are attached to the stone embankment, behind them lies a 40 meter long, 70 cm high, stone bench. At three points there are cast iron signs, with the following text in Hungarian, English, and Hebrew: "To the memory of the victims shot into the Danube by Arrow Cross militiamen in 1944–45”.
The Bridges on the River Danube

Every tourist visiting Budapest would like to cross the first stone bridge of the town, the renowned Chain Bridge at least once and most of them stand amazed in front of the Elizabeth Bridge or the mythical falcon-like birds of the Hungarians on the top of the Liberty Bridge. The favourite weekend picnic area of Budapest, the Margaret Island (Margit-sziget) can be reached through the second permanent bridge, the Margaret Bridge, whilst others are fascinated by 100 meters high pylon of the newest Northern bridge, the Megyeri Bridge, forming a letter 'A'.
